The International Journal of High School Research (IJHSR) is a peer-reviewed journal published by Terra Science and Education and dedicated to publishing high school student research in all areas of science, including behavioural and social sciences, technology, engineering, and math.
Because IJHSR evaluates manuscripts for originality, scientific rigour, clarity, and contribution to existing literature, understanding their expectations is essential for preparing a strong submission. This guide breaks down the process simply to help you navigate IJHSR requirements.
What Kind of Work Can You Submit?
IJHSR accepts two primary types of student manuscripts:
Research Articles: Reports of original experimental, computational, or theoretical research conducted by high school students. These can be up to 15 pages.
Review Articles: Critical analyses that summarize existing scientific literature, identify knowledge gaps, and outline future research directions. These can be up to 15 pages.
Across all submissions, IJHSR emphasises originality, clear scientific communication, strong methodological foundations, and integrity in research.
Eligibility
Students currently enrolled in high school (grades 9–12) are eligible to submit. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Mentor or teacher support is encouraged, but the intellectual leadership and writing must come from the student author(s).
Publication Fee
IJHSR charges a publication fee of USD 250–300 once a manuscript is accepted for publication.
Submission Process
IJHSR accepts submissions on a rolling basis. Students must prepare a single PDF of the manuscript and submit high-resolution image files (e.g., .png) for figures, formulas, or tables. Authors are also required to suggest at least three reviewers external to their institution. Once finalised, the paper and any images used in it should be sent as a single email to editor@terraed.org.
Review Timeline
The typical timeline from submission to acceptance is 1–3 months, depending on manuscript quality and response time during revisions. After acceptance and payment, the journal’s final editing and production process takes approximately 2–3 additional months.
RISE Tips for Getting Accepted
Based on award-winning IJHSR submissions reviewed by RISE, strong papers typically:
Define a clear, well-framed research question or hypothesis
Demonstrate originality in methods, interpretation, or application
Establish strong grounding in existing literature and identify a genuine gap
Communicate precisely, clearly, and professionally
Maintain strong logical coherence across all sections
Go beyond description by offering meaningful interpretation and implications
Demonstrate rigorous methodology and ethical research practices
Balance creativity with scientific accuracy and reproducibility
Application Deadline
IJHSR accepts submissions throughout the year. Students should regularly check the journal website for updates and maintain prompt communication during the review process.
