1. Break Your Project Into Manageable Milestones
When big projects seem like too big a mountain to climb... if you only look at the end goal it seems overwhelming. Try breaking your work into more manageable milestones, tasks you might qualify as weekly projects, or even daily projects you can check off as you make steady progress. This is good not just because it focuses on the amount of work you are doing, but it also gives you plenty of well-deserved opportunities to celebrate achievement along the way.
2. Remember Your "Why"
Frequently reconnect with the motivation you began with for the project at hand. Think about how finishing this project will increase your personal development, create more possibilities, or facilitate your longer-term vision. Keeping your primary motivation close at hand, such as a sticky note on your desk or vision board can help you push through challenging phases.
3. Set Realistic and Flexible Goals
Setting ambitious goals can be motivational, but setting impossible obligations only leads to burn-out. Make sure your goals really can be achieved in the time and direction you are working towards. Communicate your goals with a friend, colleague, or social community. Regular check-ins (or updates) can provide motivation, inspiration, and low-stakes accountability to keep going, even in moments when your motivation might falter.
