This literature review examines acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow marked by uncontrolled proliferation of immature lymphoblasts. It compares conventional chemotherapy with chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy across four variables: remission rates, relapse rates, treatment toxicity, and cost. Drawing on peer-reviewed clinical trial data, the paper finds that chemotherapy achieves remission in most newly diagnosed patients, while CAR-T therapy delivers remission rates above 80% in relapsed or treatment-resistant cases but carries immune-related side effects such as cytokine release syndrome and far higher costs. The author concludes that CAR-T therapy is best understood as a complementary option for relapsed ALL rather than a replacement for chemotherapy, illustrating the promise and limits of precision medicine.
